Back in 2022, we built this four-seat Turbo S for Brandon. It was one of those builds that came together perfectly - versatile enough to handle everything from desert runs to forest trails to weekend dune trips. But we never actually did a proper build breakdown on it. So here it is.
Brandon had been running a Polaris General with High Lifter long travel suspension as his personal rig. It was an incredible machine, but he wanted more horsepower and the performance that comes with the Turbo S platform. When you're riding everything from tight forest trails to open desert to occasional dune trips, having power on tap makes all the difference.
From the custom cage to the Shock Therapy suspension, every component was chosen to deliver performance and versatility. Let's break down what made this Turbo S special.
Power and Performance
The 168-horsepower ProStar Turbo engine is what sets the Turbo S apart. You've got power on demand whether you're climbing forest trails, running through the Arizona desert, or hitting the sand. Hills that require momentum planning in other machines? The Turbo S just climbs them. The wider stance and longer wheelbase give you stability in rough terrain and confidence no matter where you're riding.
Brandon wanted to keep the four-seat configuration because he rides with friends and family regularly. The Turbo S platform gave him that versatility while delivering the performance upgrade he was looking for.
Building the Suspension Right
We went with Shock Therapy components for the suspension. After years of working on these cars and seeing what holds up, Shock Therapy has proven themselves time and time again. Their valving is dialed specifically for Polaris platforms, and they understand how people actually use these machines.
The Shock Therapy setup optimizes what the Turbo S platform already has. The valving handles everything from high-speed desert runs to technical forest trails. Better bottoming resistance in the whoops, more control at speed, and a ride quality that doesn't beat you up over a full day of riding.
For wheels and tires, we chose Method Race Wheels with BFGoodrich tires. Method makes lightweight, strong wheels that look good and perform better. Reducing rotating mass means better acceleration and handling. BFG tires are a solid all-around choice. They work in sand, desert rock, forest trails, and everywhere in between. They're durable and reliable.
The whole suspension setup delivered exactly what Brandon was looking for: performance without sacrificing comfort or versatility.
Protection and Structure
When you're out riding hard, things can get rowdy. We started with a TMW front bumper because their stuff is built to last. TMW doesn't mess around with their fabrication, and we wanted heavy-duty protection on the front of this car.
The bumper also serves as a mounting point for lighting. We installed KC Flex Era 4s on the front bumper and a KC Pro Six light bar up top. KC makes some of the best lighting in the business. Whether you're running forest trails at dusk or night riding in the desert, you need serious output. The Pro Six gives you a wide spread of light for overall visibility, and those Flex Era 4s punch through the darkness for high-speed sections.
For the cage, we went with a custom four-seat cage built for protection. In a four-seat car, you're responsible for your passengers' safety, and that means the cage needs to be perfect. This isn't about looking cool or passing some basic safety check. It's about knowing that if something goes wrong, everyone in the car is protected.
Four-seat TMW doors completed the protection package. They fit great, they're solid, and they give passengers confidence whether you're leaning into turns on forest trails or bombing through the desert.
Interior Setup: Comfort and Function
Since this car needed to handle full-day rides in all types of terrain, the interior had to be both comfortable and functional. We went with PRP seats because they're the best balance of comfort and support. You can sit in these all day without getting sore, but they're also supportive enough for aggressive driving.
Communication is crucial, especially when you've got engine noise, wind, and trail noise. We installed a Rugged radio and intercom system. Being able to talk to passengers or coordinate with other cars in the group makes the whole experience better. Rugged builds reliable communication systems that just work.
The XTC system handles all the accessory controls. Lights, radio, whatever else needs to be controlled is right there within reach. XTC makes clean, simple switch systems that are easy to wire and bulletproof reliable. No complicated setups, no failures when you're miles from the truck.
For audio, we kept it simple with a Rockford setup. Two front speakers and a subwoofer. Nothing crazy, but enough to enjoy music on the drive out or during those mellower trail rides. PRP door bags handle all the small stuff: tools, snacks, sunscreen, whatever you need for a day of riding. Good door bags keep your cab organized instead of having stuff bouncing around everywhere.
The Details That Make It Work
We added a DRT trunk on the back for extra storage. When you're loading up for a full day of riding, you need space for fuel, recovery gear, camping supplies, and everything else. The DRT trunk is lockable, sealed, and gives you that cargo capacity without sacrificing your spare tire mount.
Martian Whips keep the rig visible. Whether you're in the forest, desert, or dunes, visibility matters. Martian makes some of the brightest, most durable whips available, and we wanted to make sure other riders could see Brandon coming.
These aren't flashy additions. They're practical upgrades that make the car better to use. That's what makes a build actually work instead of just looking good in photos.
Why This Build Still Works
Brandon's Turbo S delivered exactly what he was looking for back in 2022, and it's still going strong today. The ProStar Turbo engine gives the horsepower for any terrain. The Shock Therapy suspension keeps it comfortable and capable everywhere. The TMW bumper and custom cage keep it protected. The PRP seats and Rugged communication system make it enjoyable for full-day rides.
This is a smart build. Every component serves a purpose, and together they create a Turbo S that works in the forest, the desert, the dunes, and everywhere in between. Nothing is over the top, nothing is unnecessary. It's built to be used, and used hard.
