Cross-Country Customer: Virginia to Arizona for the Perfect Polaris Xpedition Build

We wanted to actually walk you through a build that is more of a modest build. We've been showing you guys a lot of really cool, high-end, crazy, over-the-top builds, but this is what we do a lot of also.

The cool story about this car is that this is Virgil's car, and Virgil actually brought us his Xpedition all the way from Virginia. He'd been watching all of our YouTube videos and our Instagram videos and just liked what we did, and he wanted us to do it. So we'll walk around and show you what we did on it. We did a lot of cool things. Like I said, this is kind of a more industrial, user-friendly build, but it still came out awesome.

The Story Behind the Build

It's not every day that a customer decides to make a cross-country road trip just to have us work on their ride, but that's exactly what Virgil did. After following our content for months, watching our builds, and seeing the quality of work we put into every project, he made the decision to load up his Xpedition and drive from Virginia all the way to Arizona. That's the kind of trust and confidence that really fires us up and makes us want to deliver something special.
This build represents what a lot of our customers are looking for - practical modifications that enhance the riding experience without breaking the bank or going full show-car crazy. Every single modification on Virgil's Xpedition serves a real purpose, and the end result is a machine that's dialed for real-world adventure.

Front End Protection and Lighting

We'll start with the front like we always do. This has the DRT Xpedition front bumper with the fairlead. This bumper is hands down one of our go-to pieces because it gives you serious protection while maintaining that clean factory look. The fit and finish on these DRT bumpers is just incredible, and they integrate perfectly with the factory winch setup.

On the front bumper, we mounted some Squadron Sports right here in amber and some XL Pros on top to give them some light options. The amber Squadron Sports are perfect for those dusty conditions where you need to cut through the haze, while the XL Pros up top provide that long-distance punch you need for night riding.

You can see the aftermarket headlights - these are XTC headlights with the amber turn signal, so we did a turn signal kit in it. The XTC turn signal system is one of those modifications that just makes sense. It's not just about looking cool; it's about safety and being seen out there, especially when you're riding in groups or on trails with other traffic. One cool thing we wanted to show you - we added the Polaris Wireless Winch Controller on this. So you can literally be outside of the car and control your winch, which is kind of sick. It's a total plug-and-play deal, so it's just a cool thing to be able to do. If you're out by yourself, you don't have to be going back and forth to hook everything up. This thing is a game-changer when you're stuck and need to self-recover.

The Perfect Wheel and Tire Combo

One of my favorite parts is the wheel and tire combo. So this is Valor's new Tango Tire in a 32, but it runs a little bit big. So the stance is perfect, and this is their V13 beadlock. If you have the black and camo version of the Xpedition, this wheel and tire combo looks like it was made for it from the factory.

It's such a sick look, and the stance is perfect. It's like a 4.3 offset-ish, somewhere right in there. With that bigger tire, it just gives it an amazing stance. The Tango tires are aggressive enough to handle serious terrain but still ride smooth on the trails. And with the V13 beadlocks, you've got the confidence to air down when you need maximum traction without worrying about losing a bead.

Side Protection and Accents

Up here, we did the DRT inner fender guards in it. These aren't just for looks - they actually protect your suspension components and keep rocks and debris from beating up the inner fender areas. We also did Polaris Factory Low-Pro Rock Sliders. These factory sliders are actually pretty badass and give you that protection you need without being too aggressive or changing the ground clearance.

It's got factory mirrors, and then back here, it's got the DRT accent panels for the intakes and above the rear tire. These accent panels are one of those details that really sets a build apart. They're not necessary, but they add that finished, thought-out look that shows attention to detail.

Utility and Storage Solutions

We did an AJK bed rack in it. This is their three-quarters short rack. So if you're not super tall, you can still have access to everything, but it gives you kind of a shelf to do stuff in the back. The AJK rack system is really well thought out - it's modular, so you can configure it however you need, and the build quality is top-notch.

We also have some AJK mud guards back here. So just kind of keep stuff from coming forward into the compartment and just kind of making it a mess. These might seem like small details, but when you're out on muddy trails, you'll appreciate having clean, dry storage areas.

The other thing we added is this AJK filler panel here to keep the mud out. So it's a little bit bigger than the other side, but it serves the same purpose - keeping your storage areas clean and functional.

Rear End Setup

We've got the DRT rear bumper with XTC license plate frame. Again, this goes as part of the XTC turn signal kit. We wired these up to a switch that we'll show you later. The integration between all these XTC components is really clean - everything works together as a system rather than just random add-on parts.

We also added a rear camera extension, because if you leave the camera in the factory position, you catch a lot of the rear bumper right there. So we moved the camera out and this is fully adjustable up and down. So we got a straight shot out the back so we can see a little bit better. This is one of those modifications that's purely functional but makes a huge difference in real-world use.

Interior Upgrades and Controls

On the inside, we did some cool stuff. So we have all the DRT goodies here. We have DRT grab handle here. We have a DRT passenger grab handle. And we did the Viper shifter. The DRT interior pieces just have that quality feel and look that matches the exterior modifications perfectly.

Up here, we have the AJK handles to help you get in and out. So we did the D-shaped suede steering wheel. The suede steering wheel isn't just about looks - it gives you better grip, especially when your hands get sweaty or dirty from riding.

This is the XTC lever kit. And then over here, it's got the horn hazard button. And these are the XTC buttons. So we have bumper lights, amber lights, and then the rear lights for the lights in the rear bumper. Having dedicated switches for all your lighting options means you can quickly adapt to changing conditions without fumbling around with multi-function switches.

Power Management and Convenience

The last final thing we did on the inside here was the Rugged USB. So this has a pretty cool thing - it tells you your voltage and then it has USB-C and a regular size USB on it. In today's world, keeping your devices charged is crucial, and having that voltage readout lets you monitor your electrical system health.

Underneath the driver's seat, we hooked him up with some leads for a jumper. If he wants to jump start it, he doesn't have to take out his seat. And also a kill switch so he can kill the power to the entire car. So when he's going to park it during the winter months for a couple months at a time, he can hit that kill switch and not have to worry about it draining the battery or anything like that. This is especially important for folks like Virgil who might store their machine for extended periods.

Why This Build Works

Like we said, this is just kind of a build we wanted to show you. More of an everyday build than some of the crazy over-the-top builds that we do. But this is something that is very practical for the everyday user and it still looks incredible.

What makes this build special isn't the price tag or the exotic components - it's the thoughtful selection of modifications that actually improve the machine's capability and usability. Every single part on this Xpedition serves a purpose, whether it's protection, functionality, or enhancing the overall experience.

Virgil's build proves that you don't need to go crazy with your budget to end up with a machine that's seriously dialed. The key is choosing quality components that work well together and actually address real-world needs. Whether you're hitting desert trails, forest roads, or anywhere in between, this Xpedition is ready to handle it all while keeping you comfortable and confident.

And the fact that a customer would drive cross-country just to have us do the work? That's what it's all about. When someone trusts you with their ride like that, you make sure you deliver something they'll love for years to come.
