2027 Polaris Xpedition & Polaris RZR Pro R Boost: What We Know

Polaris just launched the 2027 off-road lineup, and yes, the Boosted Pro R is officially real.

We got lucky on this one. Jagged X was on a conference call with some Polaris folks, including a few old racing buddies we partnered with on vehicle launches almost 17 years ago. They shared the details early, so before you scroll down to the official release, here's what stood out to us and what we think you'll actually care about.

Quick disclaimer: none of this is scripted. It's our own read on what we picked up on the call, not official Polaris marketing copy, so take it as one Xpedition and Pro R nerd talking to another.

2027 Polaris Xpedition: The New Pneumatic Clutch Changes Everything

We're Xpedition guys around here, so we're starting there. The big news is a new pneumatic clutch system Polaris is calling NUMATIX, and it's aimed straight at the one complaint everybody's had about the Xpedition since it came out: cab noise.

In plain terms, once your RPMs get you up to the speed you want, the pneumatic system uses air pressure to knock the RPMs back down without changing your speed. Less RPM, less noise in the cab, same performance the whole way.

Because it runs on air pressure, every 2027 Xpedition comes with an onboard air compressor and tank built in. That's not just for the clutch either, Polaris is rolling out accessories like pneumatic pressure washers and air chuck attachments, so you can air up your own tires, air up your buddy's tires, and get into some overlanding setups we haven't even thought of yet.

There's a fail-safe built in too, for anyone nervous about brand new tech on a brand new machine. Flip to a different drive mode and NUMATIX shuts off completely, and the Xpedition drives like a normal '24, '25, or '26 model. Lose an air line out on the trail and it doesn't matter, you're not getting stranded.

A few things we're expecting out of this that Polaris didn't spell out on the call: better gas mileage since you're not running high RPMs all the time, a low gear that finally feels like a true low gear, and a Sport mode that gets up to speed noticeably quicker.

New colors for 2027 include desert camo, black camo (still the most popular), a clean white, and a matte brown that looks great in person. The lineup still comes in both Xpedition XP and Xpedition ADV trims, and we're planning on getting a 2027 in our hands to build as soon as they land.

2027 RZR Pro R Boost: 275 Horsepower and a Whole New Level

Now for the one everyone's been asking about. The RZR Pro R Boost is the turbocharged Pro R we've all wanted, and Polaris didn't hold back. 275 horsepower at 7,000 RPM out of a 60 millimeter turbo, that's 50 more horsepower than a standard Pro R, which is already plenty fast on its own.

To handle that power, Polaris beefed up the clutches and the belt, so the extra horsepower doesn't chew through consumables the way you'd expect. Ride Command also picks up an oil pressure gauge and a belt temperature sensor, which as far as we know is the first time Polaris has put a belt temp sensor on a RZR from the factory. Nice thing to have if you're running long pulls out in Baja or hammering dunes all day.

The radiator moves to the back of the car now, race car style, which pulls the coolant lines out of the center console and cuts a ton of cab heat. There's still an intercooler up front feeding the turbo, plus a new transmission cooler, so you'll still have a couple lines running through the console, just nothing like what the motor coolant used to do.

From the outside, the Pro R Boost looks almost the same as a standard Pro R, aside from Boost badging low on the door. The exhaust is all new too, and Polaris is describing the sound as something like a mini jet engine. There's also a hood scoop feeding air to that rear radiator over the roofline, which is exactly the setup we've been running on our own race cars since 2015.

Every Pro R going forward gets the new vertical Ride Command display, and Apple CarPlay is coming in a future software update. The Ultra trim comes in black and gold, which is a soft spot for us at Jagged X. It's not an officially limited run, but it'll be harder to get than the standard cars.

Fuel capacity jumps up too, to handle the extra power: 14.7 gallons on the two-seater and 17.4 gallons on the four-seater, up from around 12.5 gallons, so that's close to a 40% increase. On top of all that, every 2027 RZR and Xpedition gets a 12-month factory warranty, double what it's been, and we're hearing the Xpedition launch might come with an extra 12 months on top of that.

We're getting our hands on a Pro R Boost too, hopefully an Ultimate if we can land one, to build, test, and bring to the shows this year.
